Well done to our lovely mentor Angelo

Posted on 18/07/2024

Taylor age 16 was referred to us by his school for some mentoring support, as he was having difficulty in expressing his thoughts and worries which were impacting on his learning and engagement in school. He was refusing to talk at home.

Taylor felt it would be useful to have someone who could listen to him and talk about his worries, so we introduced him to our Mentor Angelo.

During their mentoring session, Taylor expressed an interest in wanting to have a job; somewhere, where he could help and feel useful.   Angelo suggested he became a volunteer at our charity shop in Stourport.

Our charity shop manager Clifford writes –

“Taylor gets on well with all the volunteers on his shift in the shop. When he is set to task, he does it really well.”

Recently we were invited to Taylor’s school for a special award ceremony with his class.

Taylor was awarded, ‘The Greatest Helper’.

Since seeing his Mentor Angelo and working in the charity shop Taylor’s self-confidence has improved, he’s feeling less anxious about things.  Working better in school, there has been an improvement in his relationships, and he feels better in himself.

Mum writes –

“He’s like a different person and has much more confidence. He loves working in the shop and is gaining some valuable experience.”

If you would like to be a Mentor, and support children and young people like Taylor, or volunteer in our charity shop we would like to hear from you.

We also welcome enquiries from schools and GPs in the West Midlands.
